Foreign ministers from eight countries across the Middle East and Asia have jointly condemned a controversial Israeli law permitting the imposition of the death penalty on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, warning that the move could further destabilise the region.
In a joint statement, the ministers of Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt expressed strong opposition to the legislation recently ratified by the Knesset.
The ministers said the law, which allows for the death penalty to be applied in the occupied West Bank, represents a “dangerous escalation,” particularly citing what they described as its discriminatory application against Palestinians.

The joint statement also raised alarm over the condition of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons. The ministers cited what they described as credible reports of violations, including torture, inhumane and degrading treatment, as well as deprivation of basic rights.
According to the statement, such practices reflect what the countries called a broader pattern of violations against Palestinians in the occupied territories.
The ministers further accused Israeli authorities of pursuing policies that entrench racial segregation and deny the fundamental rights of Palestinians, rejecting what they characterised as discriminatory and repressive measures.
They called on the international community to intensify efforts to ensure accountability and prevent further deterioration of the situation, while urging Israeli authorities to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions further.
The statement adds to growing international scrutiny of Israel’s policies in the occupied territories, amid ongoing concerns over human rights and the prospects for regional peace.
