Bandits have kidnapped more than 24 students of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday, September 22, 2023, when the hoodlums invaded the Sabon-Gida community of the Bungudu Local Government Area of the State.

Sabon-Gida village is a community located opposite the main campus of the Federal University.

A student of the school, who craved anonymity claimed that most of the people abducted by the bandits are ladies.

A resident of the community by the name Nazeer Sabon-Gida stated that the bandits invaded the community in the early hours of the day and started shooting sporadically. According to him, three students’ hostels were attacked and all the occupants were carried away by the bandits.

Another eyewitness in the area who did not want to be mentioned said the bandits were involved in a serious gun battle with military personnel but were not deterred from successfully moving away with the kidnap victims.

He said that the bandits operate in such a peculiar way that they divide themselves into two groups. While one group moves the kidnapped victims, the other stays behind as protection, while engaging military personnel in a gun duel.

In a video now making the rounds on the internet, some rooms in what looks like the school hostels were seen scattered as most of the students’ properties were littered all over the place. Some of the doors and windows were also damaged apparently during the attack. Some students were also seen in the video speaking about their experience during the unfortunate attack.

The state has in the past eight years been under heavy attack by bandits who ransack communities and unleash mayhem on hapless residents of the state.
