Anambra Govt Sets Up Committee For Onitsha Fruits, Vegetables Dealers Market Association

As part of its efforts to reorganise business activities, Anambra State Government has set up a caretaker committee for Fruits and Vegetables Dealers Market, Onitsha, located behind Power Mike, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Special Adviser to the governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, charged the newly appointed committee members to focus on maintaining order, ensuring a business-friendly environment, and implementing government policies geared towards promoting economic activities in the state.

Uba stressed that the market leadership positions should be held only by those doing business in the market to prevent conflicts and ensure fair representation.

He also warned the committee members to focus on using their positions to manage the affairs of traders and maintaining law and order in the market rather than playing politics.

Uba stated that the government reserves the right to dissolve or replace any committee or its members if necessary, while encouraging them to justify the trust put in them by transparency and dedication to service.

Also speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Barr. Samuel Ike, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, urged the committee to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, integrity, and a dedication to improving market operations.

Members of the newly constituted caretaker committee include, Paul Okafor, Chairman; Alhaji Zuberu, Vice Chairman; Ogochukwu Okafor, Secretary and Isaac Nchedo, Assistant Secretary.

Others are, Nkechi Nweke, Treasurer; Ifeyinea Ukpai, Financial Secretary; Uchenna Okemefuna, Provost; Alhaji Audu Yaro, Assistant Provost; Justina Ikpeawuche, Welfare Officer and Chinyere Anagbo as the Assistant Welfare Officer.

Those to assist the committee in various ways are, Sunday Onyeagbaru, Edward Inyang, Ngozi Arima, Sule Magaji, Uche Nwadike, Charles Egonu, Ikechukwu Nwabuisi, Celestina Osondu Ekeh, and Chioma Atu.

Mr. Paul Okafor, chairman of the committee, thanked the state government and assured traders of an inclusive administration that will address their issues while adhering to the government’s aim for market development.
