This was confirmed in a letter from APC titled, ‘Allegations of anti-party activities—conveyance of state exco decision to you’.

The letter dated 7 January 2025, said Aregbesola had violated Article 21 of the APC constitution, which stipulates disciplinary measures for members.

Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State for two terms from 2010 to 2018 and Minister of Interior in the second tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023.

The statement said the State Executive Committee (SEC) resolved to approve the former minister’s immediate expulsion from the APC.

“This decision was based on clear evidence of actions that undermined the unity and integrity of the party. Consequently, you are no longer a member of the APC and must refrain from representing or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.”

The governor led The Osun Progressives, a faction within the APC that was later renamed the Omoluabi Progressives.

The expulsion came few days after Omoluabi announced its decision to dump the APC over declining influence of the party in Osun State.

The group in a statement by its Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede said Aregbesola commended their move, adding that it is necessary to enable Omoluabi Progressives members realised the group’s  vision to entrench good governance in Osun State.
