Sanusi Receives Reinstatement Letter As Kano Emir

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor,  Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, has officially received his letter of reinstatement as the 16th Emir of Kano from Governor Abba Yusuf on Friday.

In the letter presented to Sanusi, Governor Yusuf, explained that the decision to reinstate Sanusi II was taken after extensive deliberations by the Emirate Council’s kingmakers about Sanusi’s competence, credibility and intellect.

“We are optimistic that you would, at this trying period of the emirate, deploy your wealth of experience, intellect and reach to provide the required visionary and purposeful leadership required to reunite and rebuild this very respected and revered institution.”

It further said: “I urge you to be guided in all your conduct by the principle and tenets of Islamic teachings and I call upon you to use your position to unite all the adherents of the house of Mallam Ibrahim Dabo and also bring harmony and understanding among all the Islamic sects in the emirate.”

The ceremony which took place at the Government House in Kano, was attended by traditional rulers across the state.

The governor had announced the reinstatement of Sanusi as Emir of Kano on Thursday, after assenting to the new Kano Emirate Council law at the Government House.

He expressed gratitude to members of the State House of Assembly for their diligence in the passage of the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Bill, which paved the way for this reinstatement.

“I am confident that Sanusi II will utilise his vast experience and intellect to bring about positive change and progress to our esteemed emirate,” Governor Yusuf stated.

Sanusi’s reinstatement comes four years after he was dethroned by the immediate past governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, in a controversial circumstance.
