CONTRARY to the threat by Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami that Federal Government would declare a state of emergency in Anambra State over rising Insecurity, President Muhammadu Buhari has no such intention, the State Governor, Willie Obiano has said.

Obiano who addressed newsmen after visiting Buhari at the State House, said the President was not interested in imposing a state of emergency in the state, rather he was only interested in the conduct of a free, fair, and credible election to maintain democratic order.

Malami had on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting stated that Federal Government may declare a state of emergency in Anambra if the new spate of violence in the state persists during the November 6 governorship election.

Apparently upset by the comment, Obiano berated Malami for making such utterance, and described it as very unfortunate, coming from a Minister of Justice.

“That’s a very unfortunate comment by the Attorney-General Malami, very unfortunate. I also reported that to the President and this is not in the books of the President because he knows that Anambra has been the safest state in Nigeria for seven years plus,” Obiano stated.

He said he would call the AGF to express his displeasure over the comment.
