“I am pleased to inform Nigerians that Mr. President @officialABAT has assented to the bill establishing Federal University of Environmental Technology, Ogoni, in Rivers State,” Bwala stated via his X handle on Monday.

Bwala said it is part of Tinubu administration’s efforts to correct some anomalies of the past and create institutions that facilitate sustainable development across the country.

“It’s important to highlight that the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Tinubu is all about righting the wrongs of the past and putting in place institutions to guard against future segregated developments,” he stated.

He recalled that recently, the President did a similar thing by graciously approving the establishment of a Federal university to be sited in the Southern Kaduna district of Kaduna State.

“To Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, there are no minority ethnicities in Nigeria. He believes in the opening stanza of our national anthem, which says that though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood, we stand,” Bwala state.

He congratulated the good people of Ogoni land , adding that the president is fulfilling his mandate.

This comes as the Federal Government plans to resume oil exploration in Ogoni this year as part of efforts to ramp up crude oil production in the country.

Prime Business Africa recalls that Tinubu had a meeting with leaders from Ogoni at the Presidential Villa Abuja last month where he hinted at the Federal Government’s plans to resume oil extraction from the community.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, Tinubu acknowledged errors of the past and called on the people to “set aside historical grievances” and collaborate with the government to foster development in the oil-rich community.

The move to resume oil exploration in the community has generated tension as some stakeholders have criticised the Federal Government for allegedly failing to conduct adequate consultations.

Oil exploration in Ogoni land was suspended in the early 1990s due to decades of environmental degradation caused by oil spills. Activists from the region have long criticised the impact of oil production on their community.

Some civil society organisations have demanded thorough clean up of Ogoni land.
