A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 flying from Mashhad to Kermanshah made an emergency landing in Mashhad on Tuesday after part of a landing-gear tyre separated shortly after takeoff and the crew reported an engine problem, Iranian airport authorities said.

The aircraft landed safely at Shahid Hashemi Nejad Airport with no injuries reported. Footage from inside the cabin showed violent shaking, with sections of the ceiling and overhead compartments breaking loose and falling among passengers.

The pilot alerted air traffic control and requested an emergency return after the aircraft encountered the technical problems.
Hassan Jafari, public relations director of the Razavi Khorasan provincial airports authority, said part of the outer rubber or tread of a tyre had separated during takeoff. Early reports had described the incident as a tyre burst.
Jafari said the pilot subsequently reported an engine problem, but authorities have not publicly established whether it was connected to the tyre failure or the severe vibration captured in the footage.

The runway at Mashhad airport was temporarily closed for inspection before operations resumed. Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation is investigating the incident.
The incident occurred less than a month after another Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737-500 veered off the runway while landing at Mashhad on Aug. 25. No injuries were reported.
