Iran has renewed its threat to retaliate against Israel over alleged attacks on its infrastructure, while launching a fresh verbal attack on U.S. President Donald Trump following the funeral of the country’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, accused Trump of insulting the Iranian people and attempting to diminish what Tehran described as an unprecedented display of national unity during Khamenei’s funeral.
“The most despised figure in the world once again spoke in a manner befitting his own nature, addressing the great nation and the grieving people of Iran,” Zolghadr said.

He further claimed that Trump was angered by “the brilliance of the historic epic of the people of Iran and Iraq in the funeral procession of the pure body of the martyred Leader.”
Reiterating Tehran’s long-standing position on attacks against its territory, Zolghadr warned that any strike on Iran’s infrastructure would be met with a proportional response.
“As we have previously announced, attacks on infrastructure will be met with retaliation in kind, and the criminal Zionist regime, which is behind these acts of evil, will not be safe from the response of the fighters,” he said, referring to recent bridge strikes that Iranian officials have blamed on Israel.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States following weeks of military exchanges and the conclusion of Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies.

Iranian officials have accused Israel of carrying out attacks on key civilian infrastructure, including bridges, although Israel has not publicly confirmed responsibility for the alleged strikes.
Tehran has portrayed the large funeral processions held across Iran and parts of Iraq as evidence of enduring public support for the Islamic Republic despite months of conflict. The ceremonies were marked by anti-American and anti-Israeli rhetoric, with senior Iranian officials repeatedly vowing that the country would respond to what they described as acts of aggression.
Zolghadr, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), assumed office as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in March 2026 and has since emerged as one of Iran’s most prominent security officials.
His latest remarks reinforce Tehran’s pledge to retaliate against attacks on its infrastructure, the statement underscores the continued volatility in the region, with analysts warning that further escalation could jeopardize fragile efforts to prevent a broader conflict.
