Scottish Giants Rangers Signs Super Eagles Defender Balogun On One-year Deal

July 12, 2023

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was officially unveiled on Wednesday by Scottish Premiership side, Glasgow Rangers in a one-year deal after departing English Championship outfit, QPR.

Balogun will be making a return to the Gers whom he first joined in 2020 after a torrid spell at Brighton and Hoves Albion in the English Premier League.

The Nigerian alongside another Super Eagles star, Joe Aribo, was instrumental in the title winning runs by Rangers which saw the team wrestle the league crown from rivals Celtic and reached the Europa League final where they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Celtic has however won the subsequent league titles and have recruited a very good team of players with former coach Brendan Rodgers back in the dugout after being out of job for close to a year after his sacking at Leicester City.

The 55-time Scottish Premiership champions Rangers had signed fellow Nigeria international Cyreil Dessers 48 hours earlier.

Balogun made 16 league appearances for QPR last season.

The Germany-born defender is a contingency plan for his team, as their first-choice centre-back Leon King sustained an ankle injury. He becomes the seventh signing at the club.
