The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have collected access codes required to upload the particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, marking the formal commencement of the candidate nomination process ahead of the polls, Prime Business Africa reports.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, stating that the parties had completed the administrative process of obtaining credentials for the Commission’s Candidate Nomination Portal as of the close of work on Monday.

The parties are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Haruna explained that it is the responsibility of political parties participating in the elections to apply for and collect the access codes, stressing that INEC does not distribute the credentials to party secretariats. He added that any representative collecting the codes on behalf of a political party must present a letter of authorisation from the party’s leadership.
He said the Commission had already issued guidelines for candidate nominations and trained political party officials on the use of the nomination portal. Haruna urged parties to adhere strictly to the guidelines and avoid waiting until the deadline before uploading candidates’ particulars.
“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” he said.

According to INEC’s timetable for the 2027 general election, political parties have from June 27 to July 11, 2026, to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates through the designated online portal.
The Commission has also scheduled the submission of nomination forms for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates from July 18 to August 8, 2026.
The collection of the access codes signals the transition from election planning to the formal nomination phase, setting the stage for political parties to begin presenting candidates for the 2027 general elections in line with INEC’s electoral timetable.
