Junior Pope: 'Two Bodies Found, Three Missing'- NIWA

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has provided an update on the tragic boat mishap in Anambra State, revealing that 12 individuals were aboard during the incident that claimed the life of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope.

According to NIWA, seven people were rescued, while two bodies have been recovered. Sadly, three individuals remain missing.

Contrary to initial reports suggesting the incident occurred in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area, NIWA clarified that it happened in the outskirts of Onitsha, specifically in the Akpaka Area and Nsugbe of Anambra East local government area.

Suleiman Nicholas, the Area Manager of NIWA, confirmed that rescue and recovery efforts are underway at the scene, with personnel from the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, and the Marine Police collaborating in the operation.

Nicholas cautioned against premature speculation regarding the cause of the incident, emphasizing the need for accurate information. He assured that NIWA personnel are actively engaged in recovering the remaining missing victims.

Responding to inquiries about Junior Pope’s fate, the NIWA Area Manager confirmed that the actor was among the deceased.
