Blogger Faces Prosecution For Allegedly Defaming E-Money

The Lagos State Police Command has announced it’s intention to prosecute an online blogger, identified as Stanley, for allegedly defaming  businessman Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money. The police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this development on Monday during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.

Hundeyin said the police received a formal petition from E-Money regarding a defamatory video circulated online by Stanley. Following the complaint, the police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the 24-year-old blogger in Uromi, Edo State.

“He is going to be prosecuted because the things he engaged in were criminal in nature,” Hundeyin said. “He has allegedly defamed E-Money, and he is going to face the legal consequences. This action is not being taken due to the status of the individual involved, but because a crime has been committed. E-Money followed the proper legal channels by reporting the case to the police, prompting us to investigate and apprehend the suspect.”

“If one is defamed and only talks about it on social media, it has not been formally reported to the police. The appropriate step is to report it at any police division, area command, or police headquarters, and we will take it from there,” he explained.

“I made a video about E-Money, claiming he was involved in incidents affecting Nollywood actor John Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope. I also falsely accused E-Money of having an affair with Junior Pope’s wife. I have never met E-Money, and everything I said in that video was untrue,” Stanley admitted.

Stanley explained that his primary motive was to boost his social media traffic and had no intention of damaging E-Money’s reputation. “I never anticipated the video would go viral. I know it was wrong to make such claims, and I didn’t realize it would escalate to this extent,” he concluded.
