The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that an escort convoy transporting civilians came under attack on Monday morning in Binduri, in Ghana’s Upper East Region, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to one other, Prime Business Africa reports.
In a statement issued by its Department of Public Relations from the General Headquarters at Burma Camp in Accra, the military said the convoy was providing protection for about 140 civilians travelling from Bawku to Bolgatanga when it was ambushed by unidentified gunmen.
According to the statement, the attackers opened fire multiple times on the convoy, leading to casualties among the civilians being escorted. The military, however, responded swiftly and successfully repelled the assault.

During the counter-operation, seven of the assailants were killed, the Armed Forces disclosed.
The military further stated that in the course of pursuing fleeing suspects, troops recovered a G3 automatic rifle, two loaded magazines, and additional ammunition from one suspect who reportedly sought refuge in a mosque. Ten other suspects were arrested and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Armed Forces cautioned the public against interfering with military or other security operations, stressing the need for cooperation in maintaining security.
It also extended condolences to the families of the deceased civilians and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The incident underscores ongoing security tensions in parts of northern Ghana, particularly around the Bawku enclave, which has witnessed periodic outbreaks of violence.
