The Government of Ghana has facilitated the return of a Ghanaian national, Mr. Emmanuel Akowuah Asamoah, from South Africa, as part of ongoing efforts to protect its citizens abroad.
Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed the development in a statement issued Tuesday night, expressing satisfaction over the safe return of the citizen.
“We are delighted to welcome back home from South Africa our dear compatriot, Mr. Emmanuel Akowuah Asamoah,” the minister said.

He commended Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quarshie, for personally accompanying Asamoah back to Ghana, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the welfare of its nationals abroad.

The repatriation comes amid growing concerns over the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa, where periodic anti-immigrant tensions have been reported.
Ablakwa reiterated that the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to assisting Ghanaians who wish to return home under distressing circumstances. He urged citizens seeking relocation to contact Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa for support, noting that the process is being fully funded by the government.
“As we have already announced, Ghanaians who wish to be relocated back home should contact our High Commission to be assisted at the Government of Ghana’s expense,” he said.

The minister emphasized that the administration places a high premium on the safety and dignity of every Ghanaian, regardless of their location.
“The Mahama Administration values every Ghanaian life anywhere in the world, and we shall never abandon our citizens in distress. Your welfare remains our utmost priority,” he added.
Ablakwa also disclosed plans to host Asamoah upon his return to Ghana later in the week, welcoming him back with a message underscoring national unity and belonging.
