Bayelsa Guber: Diri Wins In 3 LGAs, As Collation Adjourned

Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won in three local government areas in the off-season governorship election held in the state on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, morning commenced collation of election results in both Bayelsa and Kogi States.

Governor Diri is seeking re-election for a second term of four years.

Bayelsa has eight local government areas namely, Brass, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenegoa.

Prof Faruq Kuta, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, is the state Returning Officer for the election in Bayelsa.

According to the results of three LGAs – Kolokuma, Ogbia and Yenegoa – collated so far, Diri won, followed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva.

Here are the results:

 

Kolokuma LGA

APC – 5,349 votes

PDP – 18,465 votes

LP – 22 votes

 

Ogbia LGA

APC -16,319

PDP – 18,435

LP – 57 votes

 

Yenagoa LGA

APC – 14,534

PDP – 37,777

LP – 244

There was a report of zero votes recorded for some polling units where BVAS was bypassed leading to over-voting and violence.

The Returning officer adjourned to 3 pm for the continuation of results collation for the remaining five LGAs.
