Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six suspects and recovering vehicles and petroleum products believed to have been used in the illicit operation, Prime Business Africa reports.

Items recovered during the operation included four drums, two of which contained suspected illegally refined petroleum products. The troops also seized a white Ford bus and a tanker suspected to have been used to facilitate the illegal bunkering activities.

The suspects and the recovered exhibits were subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, said the handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops for their swift response, professionalism and successful execution of the operation.

He said the operation underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and combating economic sabotage within the 81 Division’s Area of Responsibility.

Major General Babalola urged the troops to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations and called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at curbing illegal activities and safeguarding national economic assets.
