Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has won re-election, securing a second term after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in Saturday’s governorship election, Prime Business Africa reports.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, the winner early on Sunday after results from all 30 local government areas in the state were collated.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes, by a margin of 66,252 votes. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The incumbent won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11, according to the collated results.
The victory extends Adeleke’s tenure beyond the four-year term he secured in 2022 and gives him a second consecutive mandate as governor.
His re-election is also notable because he contested under the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which he won the governorship in 2022. He subsequently secured the Accord Party’s ticket to contest the election.
Fifteen political parties participated in the election, although the contest was largely dominated by Adeleke and Oyebamiji.

The election followed months of intense campaigning in the southwestern state, with the APC mounting a strong challenge against the incumbent. While early results indicated a competitive race, the final collation gave Adeleke a clear statewide lead.
The result gives Adeleke a fresh mandate to continue his administration in Osun, while the APC faces the task of regrouping after failing to unseat the incumbent despite winning 11 local government areas.
INEC’s declaration brought the contest to a close after the commission completed the collation of results at its headquarters in Osogbo.
