Peter Obi Decries Shortage Of Health Professionals, Donates N100m To Specialist Hospital In Nsukka

FORMER Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi,  has donated N100 million to Bishop Shanahan Specialist Hospital, Nsukka, to equip its School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Technology.

Presenting the cheque to the proprietor of the hospital and Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Bishop Professor Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, the ex Governor emphasized the importance of nurses in healthcare delivery, and called on well-meaning Nigerians to urgently invest in primary healthcare.

In his words;“Nurses and midwives account for over 50% of global health workforce. They play a very vital role in health promotion, disease prevention, delivery of primary and community care, and are key to the achievement of universal health coverage.”

Obi who reiterated the urgent need for colleges of nursing sciences and schools of midwifery to be equipped, decried the global shortage  of nurses and midwives, and predicted that by 2030, over 10 million nurses would be needed to sustain healthcare in the world.

The Catholic Bishop described the former Governor as a lover of humanity, a man of integrity, and one with practical ideas to move the nation forward.

The Hospital Administrator, Rev Fr Greg Onah, further described the ex Governor as a friend to the needy and one whose generosity towards the healthcare centre has been unmatched.

They prayed for God to bless and grant him platforms to touch more lives.
