In a chat with journalists, Ebi said the project would be a significant landmark in moving the issue of safety management forward and also bridge the gap between academics and field of practice.

According to Prof. Falodun, the development is in line with the aim of the institution, found in 2002, to provide middle-level manpower in the area of technical education, for technical revolution.

He said, “We have entered a partnership for the joint establishment of a Centre for Occupational Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Studies with the aim of jointly providing safety and allied training and certification for final year students of the Edo State Polytechnic to enhance their utilization in the public and private sectors upon their graduation. This agreement also covers part-time students that may be admitted from time to time.”

He also said it was in line with the initiative of the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, to ensure that the staff and students acquired good skills that would reposition the institution to become the best in Nigeria.

Falodun noted that the nature of education at the centre included training, lectures, seminars and workshops for basic health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSE).

According to him,  the new centre adds to the wide array of professional education offered by the institution to contribute to the development and growth of the state and the country at large.

He stated that the school would continue to pursue such partnerships to widen the scope of professional training offered in the institution to provide relevant skills needed in today’s industries.
