Kayode Egbetokun appointed as acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has assumed office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This comes a day after he was decorated by Vice President, Kashim Shettima, as the 22nd IGP of the Nigeria Police Force.

Egbetokun was on Monday appointed as acting IGP by President Bola Tinubu, following the compulsory retirement of his predecessor, Usman Alkali Baba.

Speaking during his assumption of office, the acting IGP said he is aware of the enormous responsibility that comes with his appointment and promised to run a transparent and integrity-driven regime.

While emphasizing the importance of community policing as one policy thrust of his administration, he revealed plans to strengthen the intelligence-gathering capabilities of the Force.

Egbetokun further called for cooperation and teamwork, especially among the officers of the Force. He also hinted on building a stronger inter-agency collaboration and deploying appropriate technology in combating crime and ensuring internal security

He also appealed to Nigerians to support the police in the fight against criminal activities.

Egbetokun is a former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command and had also served as Chief Security Officer to Tinubu as Governor of Lagos from 1999-2005.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Education Mathematics, Masters in Engineering Analysis, and Masters in Business Administration, all from the University of Lagos.

He also has a PGD in Petroleum Economics obtained from Delta State University.

He also a PhD in Peace and Security Studies from Al-hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Aside from academic achievements, Egbetokun also attended courses/training on security both locally and abroad and worked in various commands, formations and departments of the police force.
