Like the first two seasons of the flagship Bridgerton series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story follows the young couple in the early days of their courtship and marriage.

Unlike the Bridgerton siblings, Charlotte finds a great deal more pressure on her shoulders, both in terms of marrying into the royal family, and in the words of Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas) being “the first of her kind” to do so.

Heavy as these issues might be, the trailer is also packed with steamy moments audiences have come to expect from the world of Bridgerton, and hints at a sweet, compelling chemistry between Amarteifio and Mylchreest.

The series comes from the orginal show’s creator Shonda Rhimes, who is the show-runner, executive producer and writer on Queen Charlotte, along with executive producers Betsy Beers and Tom Verica (who doubles as one of the director).

The upcoming third season will center on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), the latter of whom has been umasked as the anonymous scandal writer Lady Whistledown, who serves as the connective voiceover each season.

Phoebe Dynevor, whose character Daphne launched Bridgerton with her and Simon’s (Regé-Jean Page) love story in season one, recently announced she won’t be returning for season three.
