Iran, Kuwait Close Borders As Fresh Iraqi Conflict Escalates

Following the violence that erupted in Iraq due to controversial resignation from politics of a top cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, Iran and Kuwait who are neighbours have advised their citizens to avoid travelling to Iraq.

Citing “unrests” and “curfew” in Iraqi cities, Iranian State television has announced that the government has halted flights to Iraq and also closed its borders to the country.

This decision came as Iranians are planning to visit holy sites in Iraq for annual Shiite pilgrimage.

The government of Iran has also advice its citizens in Iraq to stay at home and avoid moving from one city to another as the conflict is going on.

Also, Kuwait another neighbour to Iraq has asked its citizens to live the Arab country and avoid going to Iraq for the main time until everything settles.

The violence that erupted on Monday due to the controversial resignation of the Shiite cleric has led to destruction of government properties and left about 30 people dead so far.

Emirates Airlines has also cancelled flights to Iraq because of the violence saying that it was “monitoring the situation closely.”
