The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived screening requirements for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections, effectively deeming him duly screened in line with the party’s constitution.
The decision was taken at the party’s 188th NWC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja, where members cited constitutional provisions that empower the committee to organise and supervise primaries and, in special circumstances, grant waivers in the interest of the party.

According to a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, the waiver applies to the sitting President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is also the leader of the ruling party.
The committee said the move was justified by what it described as overwhelming endorsements from key stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party structures.
It referenced a series of party events, including the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as evidence of sustained confidence in the President’s leadership.
The NWC also argued that requiring the President to physically appear before a screening panel would be unnecessary, noting that he had previously undergone and cleared the party’s screening process ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.
“With the incumbent President having been duly screened and cleared previously, and in view of his role as leader of the party, a fresh appearance before a screening committee is considered redundant,” the statement read in part.

The APC maintained that the waiver was granted in accordance with Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of its constitution, which provides the party’s leadership with discretion over internal electoral processes.
The development comes as political parties across the country intensify preparations for their respective primary elections ahead of the next general election cycle.
