NGX Closes With N220bn Gain As Traders Exchange N29bn Shares

The equity market closed in positive territory for the second time this week as stocks rose by 0.04%. Investors traded N15.07bn worth of shares.

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) recovered from the loss recorded on Wednesday, March 4, with a N220.74 billion gain on Thursday, March 5, as the bourse’s market capitalisation grew to N126.31 trillion.

According to the NGX, also known as the stock market, the market valuation increased from N126.09 trillion after the all-share index (ASI) expanded by 343.93 basis points.

The index expanded from 196,463.22 ASI to 196,807.15 ASI, representing a 0.17 percent appreciation.

At the end of trading, NGX traders exchanged 634.01 million shares in 66,286 deals, worth N29,10 billion, falling below the 805.25 million shares, valued at N38.41 billion, that were traded in 71,312 deals on Wednesday.

Top five gainers

  • Eterna’s share price increased by N3.50 kobo to rise from N35 to N38.50 kobo per share.
  • NPF Microfinance Bank’s share value grew by N0.65 kobo, from N6.50 kobo to N7.15 kobo per share.
  • Premier Paints ended trading at N13.30 kobo per share, from N12.10 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N1.20 kobo.
  • Custodian’s share appreciated by N6.80 kobo to end trading at N76.80 kobo, having opened with N70.
  • Fortis Global Insurance’s share value was up by N0.12 kobo, after closing at N1.36 kobo from N1.24 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • LOTUSHAL15’s share price depreciated by N10.59 kobo, dwindling from N105.90 kobo to N95.31 kobo per share.
  • Tripple Gee recorded a N0.47 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N4.26 kobo after opening with N4.73 kobo per share.
  • Multiverse lost N2.25 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N20.45 kobo from N22.70 kobo per share.
  • Jaiz Bank recorded a N0.80 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N10 after opening with N10.80 kobo per share.
  • Honeyflour reported a decline of N1.60 kobo from the previous share price of N22.50 kobo to end trading at N20.90 kobo per share.

  • Jaiz Bank reported that 137.30 million shares valued at N1.41 billion were traded on its floor.
  • GTCO recorded 45.47 million shares valued at N5.41 billion.
  • Access Holdings saw investors trade 29.74 million of its shares valued at N774.75 million.
  • Sovereign Insurance recorded 27.14 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N70.61 million.
  • Zenith Bank reported that traders exchanged 24.34 million shares valued at N2.24 billion.
