Kwankwaso Denies Concluding Plans To Join APC

May 17, 2025

Former Governor of Kano State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has denied concluding plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), or any other political party.

Kwankwaso stated this while reacting to a statement that claimed he had reached a resolution on defecting to another political party.

In a statement via his official X handle on Saturday, Kwankwaso described the statement as false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.”

The former Kano governor said he has refrained from commenting on contemporary political events and would continue to do so.

He urged members of the public to disregard any statement not coming from his official handles.

The statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria.

“I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.

“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events, and I will continue to do so for the time being.

“In this regard, I urge the public to only engage statements that come from my public handles and other official sources.”

Prime Business Africa reports that in the statement purportedly signed by one Ibrahim Rabiu, Kwankwaso was quoted to have revealed a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on different occasions, and was urged to return to the APC.

However, Kwankwaso said he never authorised anyone to issue such a statement on his behalf.

Meanwhile, Mr Rabiu has issued a statement denouncing his earlier statement, describing it as a work of the devil.

He said he was not authorised by Kwankwaso to issue the statement on his behalf. He apologised to the ex-governor, promising not to repeat such a “childish act” in the future.

“I, Ibrahim Rabiu, wish to inform the general public that I was never authorised by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso to issue and release a statement on his behalf.

“I therefore wish to tender a public apology to his person with a promise that such childish act will never be repeated in the future, please find a space in your heart to forgive me, I was misled by fake news and agents of misinformation,” Rabiu stated.
