Victor EzejaThe Presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu will return to Nigeria and resume duties at Aso Villa after the Easter holiday next week.
In apparent response to growing concerns about Tinubu’s whereabout, the presidency said he “remains fully engaged in Nigeria’s governance even though he is away in Europe.”
Join our WhatsApp ChannelIn a statement on Thursday, Tinubu’s Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said the president’s absence is on a temporary basis and has not gone beyond the two-week timeframe communicated earlier.
Tinubu had on 2 April, travelled to Paris in France on a “short working visit”, according to Onanuga.
In the statement released on Thursday, Onanuga said the President left Paris for London during the weekend and has maintained constant communication with key government officials to ensure that critical national issues were promptly addressed.
He said: “The President left Paris for London at the weekend and has maintained constant communication with key government officials, overseeing critical national matters, including directives to security chiefs to address emerging threats in some parts of the country.
“His return to Abuja and the resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday.”

Recall that some opposition political figures have criticised the president’s trip to France, accusing him of abandoning the country at a time of deepening crisis, especially the recent killings perpetrated by terrorists in North Central and North East parts of Nigeria, leading to the death of over 100 persons in the past two weeks.
However, Onanuga maintained that in the absence of the president, governance had proceeded without interruption.
“The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership.

“We appreciate the public’s concern and assure all Nigerians that governance proceeds without interruption,” Onanuga added.
The Federal government announced Friday, 18th and Monday, 21st April 2025, as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday.
