Funke Akindele Turns Oliver Twist As ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Breaks Record

High flying Filmmaker and producer, Funke Akindele, like Oliver Twist, has asked for more from her fans after her latest effort “Everybody Loves Jenifa” broke box office records with N783 million in two weeks. The film also achieved the largest single-day gross of all time with N107 million.

While still savouring the benefit of her latest effort, the award-winning actress urged her fans to continue their support for the film while revealing a desire to see it beat record set by her previous delivery “A Tribe Called Judah.”

Recall that A Tribe Called Judah broke several office records, including becoming the first Nigerian film to earn N1 billion. In domestic theatres in just three weeks, as well as the first Nollywood film to gross over ₦113 million in its opening weekend.

The film, which was released on December 15, 2023, was a major hit in countries like  Ghana, the United Kingdom, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Rwanda, Senegal, and Togo.

“Everybody Loves Jenifa” is currently in pursuit of the record of Tribe of Judah with Akindele charging her fans on while counting the blessings for achievement made so far.

Celebrating this feat, she wrote on Instagram: “This is huge!!!!! God did!!! Big thanks to our amazing fans and supporters!! #eljthemovie is still showing nationwide and internationally: It is showing in the UK, US, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and more!

“Let’s beat the record of my previous highest grossing film, A Tribe Called Judah! I need your support to do so, go watch #Everybodylovesjenifa and let’s make history together!”, she enthused.

Should you see Funke Akindele popping champagne in celebration as the year draws to a close, just know she has every cause to do so.  Aside from positive vibes coming from the release of “Everybody Loves Jenifa”, the 47-year-old only recently ventured into Real Estate ownership with the successful launch of Jenifa Garden.

She was also recently appointed National Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
