Armed hoodlums have attacked the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) 330/132/33kV transmission substation still under construction in Obajana, Kogi State.
According to a statement by TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the vandals, who carried out the attack on Tuesday night, damaged a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer, already fixed.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe statement said security operatives at the substation were overpowered by the criminals who opened fire upon arrival at the premises.
“During the attack, a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer, already positioned on its plinth, was struck, resulting in a burst radiator.”
The statement added that TCN is currently evaluating the level of damage in collaboration with the contractor managing the project.
The incident comes amid reports of vandalisation and theft of power infrastructure is part of a broader pattern of vandalism targeting transmission infrastructure across the country.
“The new Obajana Transmission Substation, which is designed to be a 1X150MVA 330/132/33kV capacity substation will significantly enhance power supply to Kogi State and surrounding areas upon completion,” Mbah added.
TCN has continued to record cases of destruction of power infrastructure by hoodlums.
