The Senate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has submitted list of five Acting VC nominees to the governing council for screening, Prime Business Africa gathered.

According to information gleaned on Wednesday, 14th August from the verified X account of veteran journalist and Jefferson Fellow, Dr Marcel Mbamalu, who is also the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Prime Business Africa, the Senate meeting which was directed by the Acting Vice-chancellor, Prof. Romania Ezeokonkwo, ended at 4 pm on Monday, 12th August and the VC asked the secretary of the Senate to send the list of the five nominees directly to the Council.

Primebusiness.africa can report that the Senate forwarded the names to the General Ike Nwachukwu-led Governing Council on Tuesday, 13th August.

Primebusiness.africa had reported that the University Governing Council last week directed the Acting VC, who it described as “Temporary VC” to convene a Senate meeting and nominate five persons (including a female) who are at least 65 years of age and submit to the Council for consideration and subsequent appointment as Acting VC for the next six months when a substantive VC will be appointed. The council also gave a condition that anyone who will emerge acting VC must not have interest in contesting for substantive VC.

This development comes two months after Prof. Ezeokonkwo was elected following the expiration of the tenure of office of the former substantive VC, Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe in June.

Prime Business Africa reliably gathered that these candidates would be meeting the council for a one-on-one assessment on Friday, August 16. The invitation for the interview by the governing council came after the nominees sent their curriculum vitae (CV) to the council on Wednesday.

The process leading to the nomination of the five candidates by the Senate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka was a rigorous exercise that took a whole work day, ending late evening of Monday. The selection process followed the Governing Council’s directive to the temporary VC Ezeokonkwo to kick-start the process and ensure that the list of five nominees, which must include a female should reach the council on or before Monday, 12th August, a deadline that was later in a followup memo moved to Wednesday,  14th August.

The new acting VC nominees are

Prof. Polycarp Emeka Chigbu – 285

Prof. Denis Nnabuike Onah – 280

Prof. Okpan Kalu Oyeoku – 248

Prof. Pat Uche Okpoko – 242

Prof. Mrs. U.P. Enemo – 240
