Simi, who recently apologised to  internet trolls after wearing what they dubbed inappropriate swim suit, shared a clip of a studio session with the 82-year-old Juju maestro on social media.

In the video, Simi was seen hugging the highly respected musician during the remaking of his classic song titled, ‘Jowo’ which was contained in Simi’s newest album entitled, ‘Lost and Found.’

Reacting to the moment, Simi said, “I’ve said it many times that I didn’t grow up in a musical household. However, I do have memories of my parents playing records of legends like Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, KWAM 1 etc. Growing up, I found my own personal love for their sounds and songs. I fell in love with highlife music, especially.

Nobody makes music like them anymore. It was my desire to get Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey’s voice on a record with me. I didn’t just want to sample his song again, and he has taken me as his daughter and I’m so thankful for this. God bless you, Sir. I love and honour you.”

On his part, the Juju legend said, “Simi is my daughter, and her husband is my son as well. She is a very talented artist. She happened to have done a remix of one of my songs, ‘Aimasiko,’ on her own. But, she took permission before doing it and it came out very well. So, we decided to do a version of this song together.”

Simi’s newest body of work also features raving-making artistes including award-winning performers, Asa, Falz, Tiwa Savage, Lojay, Ladipoe and Bella Shmurda.

It will not be the first time the delightable artist will be remaking the work of legends in what looks like a determined effort to keep evergreen tunes permanently on the front burner.

In 2018, Simi sampled and remixed Chief Ebenezer Obey’s hit number, ‘Aimasiko,’ in the 2017 released album, ‘Simisola.’ In the same album, she sampled Victor Uwaifo’s ‘Joromi.’
