NCC Signs Partnership With Nokia For 5G/4G Training

In a move towards advancing Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inked a deal with Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria.

Led by Dr. Bosun Tijanni, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, and Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of NCC, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to empower Nigerian youth with cutting-edge 4G/5G radio and transmission technologies.

Dr. Maida expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration is pivotal in addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the telecom industry.”

Under the agreement, Nokia Nigeria will establish a fully operational 5G/4G test lab at the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Digital Parks. Leveraging their latest technologies, the lab will serve as a training ground for aspiring telecom professionals.

“This initiative aligns with our commitment to bolstering digital literacy and fostering technical expertise nationwide,” remarked Dr. Tijanni. “By equipping young Nigerians with contemporary skills, we’re preparing them for the future of telecommunications.”

Furthermore, Nokia Nigeria plans to launch an Entrepreneur Learning Programme as part of the collaboration. This program will offer vocational training to 200 Nigerian students selected from all six geopolitical zones. It seeks to nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs equipped to navigate the complexities of the digital landscape.

“This partnership underscores Nokia’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation journey,” affirmed a representative from Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria. “We believe that by investing in local talent and infrastructure, we can drive sustainable growth and innovation in the telecom sector.”

The MoU signifies a joint commitment to fostering innovation and building a skilled workforce capable of driving Nigeria’s digital economy forward. With 5G on the horizon, initiatives like these are crucial for ensuring that Nigeria remains competitive in the global telecommunications landscape.
