Buhari Mourns Intellectual Giant, Ogbonnaya Onu

Former Nigerian, President Muhammadu Buhari, has joined family members of the deceased and the entire country in mourning the death of a notable politician, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

Dr Onu, aged 72, died on Thursday in Abuja after a brief illness.

He is the first civilian governor of Abia State and former minister of Science, Technology and Innovation under his Buhari’s administration from 2015 to 2022.

Onu is also the former chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a party that once fielded Buhari as a presidential candidate in 2003 and 2007 general elections.

A statement by Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu, said the former president while reacting to the news of Onu’s death said the nation had lost “one of its most outstanding scientific minds and intellectuals.

“He was an intellectual giant. My heart goes out to his family, the government and people of Abia State and the country at large. May his soul rest in peace,” Buhari stated.
