Cutting Cost Of Governance: Tinubu Govt Set To Sell 3 Presidential Aircraft To Save Billions Spent On Maintenance

In its quest to cut the cost of governance, President Bola Tinubu’s government has concluded plans to sell three aircraft from the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) to save billions of naira spent annually on maintenance of the jets.

The Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) has 10 aircraft comprising six jets and four helicopters.

The proposed sale of three would reduce the number to seven.

According to a media report, the maintenance costs have shut up astronomically in recent times with the burden becoming unbearable for the government of the day, hence the need to cut it down.

A source said the government officers expressed concern about the frequency of the maintenance and the cost implication to the country.

“The President is uncomfortable with the rising cost of maintaining the planes. Three planes have been pencilled down for disposal. The main reason is cutting down on high maintenance costs.

“The President decided to let off the aircraft that constitute the most burdensome,” the source told a national newspaper.

Tinubu has repeatedly assured that his government is working towards cutting the cost of government. Earlier this year, it announced a slash of government entourage for trips both locally and internationally.

Tinubu also declared his intention to implement the Steve Oronsaye report on Civil service restructuring. This involves merging, and outright scrapping of some Federal Government agencies to cut the cost of governance.
