Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino could not hide his frustrations on Sunday evening after his team were beaten 2-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux in the Premier League’s first Christmas eve game in 28 years.

The Argentine coach watched on as his team missed a litany of chances although Christopher Nkunku salvaged some pride with a goal after Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty had put two goals past the Blues’ defence.

Despite his electric pace, Raheem Sterling missed clear cut chances and was supposed to have squared the ball to either Nicolas Jackson or Mykhailo Mudryk but rather had his poor shot saved by Jose Så.

Pochettino insists in his post match press conference that the team were their own enemies going by the missed opportunities.

“That’s why we didn’t win today, because in the first half we had the chances to score. In the Premier League if you’re not clinical enough when you have chances, always you can concede.”

The former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG tactician added: “I agree we’re our own enemy. I don’t want to take credit away from Wolves. They scored and they did their job.”

Pochettino however reminded fans of the club that they need to be patient as the current side is different from the Chlesea under Roman Abrahamovic.

The Blues are currently placed 10th in the Premier League table with 22 points from 18 games.
