Buhari, Power, And The Burden Of Legacy

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Ali Ndume on Friday stated that President Muhammadu Buhari was not in charge during his reign and did not bother to supervise officials he gave assignments.

Ndume who spoke while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, pointed out that even the former president now confesses to having kleptocrats in his administration.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines a kleptocrat as a leader who makes himself or herself rich and powerful by stealing from the rest of the people

Ndume, who represents Borno South in the Senate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said, “The President here is in charge. He takes charge, unlike our former President. That President will just give you an assignment, he will not look over you.

“That is where the problem is and he (Buhari) knows that. That was the mistake President Buhari made. He ended up confessing these days that he had more kleptocrats in his government than people that had more interest at heart.”

Prime Business Africa recalls that Buhari recently revealed that a cabal must have hijacked his eight-year administration. When asked in an NTA interview if he lost his administration to a cabal, Buhari responded by saying, “it must have been” but was quick to add that he was not sure anyone who broke the law was allowed to “walk away”.

Then First Lady, Aisha Buhari, had lent credence to the rumors of a shadowy group of influence peddlers hijacking her husband’s government in 2016, stating that: “You will know them (the hijackers) if you watch television”.
