Rema Responds To Witchcraft Allegations Over O2 Arena

Nigerian artist Rema dazzled audiences and achieved a milestone by selling out the iconic O2 Arena. Riding the wave of success from his global hit single ‘Calm Down,’ Rema’s performance was not only a celebration of his achievements but also a canvas for artistic expression that ignited both admiration and controversy.

Rema’s concert, marked by elaborate stage setups and unconventional attire, sparked discussions among concertgoers. Some voiced concerns about perceived demonic undertones in his choice of clothing and props, especially during his grand entrances.

The 23-year-old superstar made his entrance on a horse, clad in a flowing black robe and a red mask. In a second grand entrance, he rode to the stage on the back of a giant bat with piercing red eyes.

These choices reignited conversations about the presence of occult symbolism in Rema’s artistic interpretations, despite his previous assertions of being a Christian.

In response to the controversy, Rema took to his social media account to share the cultural inspiration behind his choices. He explained that the horse and mask were inspired by the rich heritage of Edo culture.

He emphasized that the awe-inspiring arts of the Edo people were taken away during the British invasion of 1897 and are currently housed in the London Museum, far from their rightful home in the Bini Kingdom.

The horse symbolizes a prominent motif in Edo art, while the mask draws inspiration from the legendary Edo monarch, Queen Idia. Rema’s attempt to pay homage to his cultural roots and infuse his performance with historical significance adds a layer of depth to the artistic choices that, for some, may have seemed enigmatic or unsettling.
