EFCC Arrests 72 OAU Students In Midnight Raid

EFCC Declares ex-Power Minister Wanted Over Corruption Charge

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly stormed hostels outside Obafemi Awolowo University at about 2 am on Wednesday, arresting 72 students.

Some students of the institution claim that the officials invaded the Fine Touch and Superb hostels in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife, broke into rooms and arrested students.

Reasons for the arrest have not been made known by the anti-graft agency.

The Student’s Union President, Abass Ojo, confirmed the incident, stating that “72 students picked up from the hostel with phones and cars taken away.”

Videos online reveal young persons said to be students being led to enter a white Hummer bus with officials hitting and ordering them in.

The Students union of the school in response to the arrest of the OAU students condemned the actions of the commission on their X page, saying “We strongly condemn the recent unjust arrest and harassment of our fellow students by members of the EFCC @officialEFCC in the odd hours of today, Nov 1st, 2023. This action is unacceptable and goes against the principles of justice and due process.”

“We stand in solidarity with our peers and call for a thorough investigation into these incidents. The safety and rights of students must be protected,” the union added.
