Former Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro, has hit the road again in search of another job.

The 65 year old Portuguese tactician, who led the Super Eagles to the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, where the team finished in the second place, has been sent packing by the Egyptian league giants, Zamalek.

The five-time CAF Champions League winners announced the decision to part ways with Peseiro, May 7, following the club’s disappointing 2-2 draw against National Bank on Monday.

Peseiro, who joined Zamalek in February, under a two-year contract, leaves the club just months after their unexpected exit in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Stellenbosch and Zamalek had settled for a goalless draw in the first leg in South Africa, only for Stellenbosch to beat Zamalek 1-0 in Egypt to advance on 1-0 aggregate.

The former Venezuela coach faced intense scrutiny, following the team’s elimination, where they were knocked out by South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC, after a narrow 1-0 aggregate defeat.

In an official statement released on the club’s website, Zamalek expressed their appreciation for Peseiro’s contributions, stating, “Zamalek and Jose Peseiro agree to end the relationship by mutual consent. We wish him the best in future endeavours.

Peseiro’s short tenure was marked by high expectations, and his exit is a part of Zamalek’s ongoing struggle to reclaim their status in Egyptian football. Following the sacking, Peseiro will be missing when Zamalek files out against Ceramica Cleopatra in their next match.

Peseiro has managed over 19 clubs and three national teams including Saudi Arabia since venturing into coaching in 1992.

Away from Egypt, Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement over the coach’s departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, which will presumably pave the way for him to become the new Brazil national team manager.

The Italian boss had long been rumoured to be on the verge of leaving Los Blancos, amid speculation of a move to the Seleção, with an emissary from the five-time World Cup winners having traveled to Madrid multiple times in recent weeks to hold talks with the 65-year-old.

However, Ancelotti’s exit remained uncertain as he was still negotiating with the club over the salary for the final year of his current contract, which runs until 2026.

According to The Athletic, the two parties have now reached a verbal agreement, and an official announcement is expected possibly after Sunday’s El-Classico.

This means Ancelotti will not lead the team at the Club World Cup in June, by which time he is expected to have signed with Brazil.

Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen remains the Madrid giants’ preferred option to take over the role, although Director of Football, Santiago Solari, Castilla coach Raúl González, and Juvenil A manager Álvaro Arbeloa are all considered possible interim candidates for the Club World Cup.
