Wike Highlights Why PDP May Lose Winning Chances In 2027
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike

Newly appointed Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, confirmed that despite being a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he actually worked for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 General elections to become president.

The immediate past governor of Rivers State, said his loyalty lies with the president and not the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that he owed no one any apology for doing so.

“I owe nobody any apology at all. I was in PDP and I worked for Ahmed Bola Tinubu to become the President of Nigeria.”

Contention arose as a result of the ex governor’s name appearing in APC’s campaign council for the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states on November 11.

This followed the rebuttal on Tuesday night, by the party of divulging documents featuring names of chairmen, co-chairmen, and campaign council members for the governorship elections which went viral in the public sphere. The denial of the authenticity of the documents was expressed in a statement released in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka.

The statement read: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to National Campaign Council Lists for November 11 2023 Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States in circulation in sections of the media. The lists are not official documents of the Party and should be disregarded,” the APC statement read.

Wike’s name revealed in the documents signed and posted on the social media platform of the ruling party on Tuesday evening by the National Organising Secretary of the ruling party, Suleiman Arugungu, resulted in a heated argument in the opposition party’s camp- PDP.

Speaking on Wednesday night, Wike clarified his membership with the opposition party despite his campaign for the president who is from the ruling party.

He further boasted that no one could suspend or discipline him for his actions.

“With all due respect, I have not seen that person who will suspend me. Nobody will do it. Who will discipline me? I should be the one calling for the discipline of these people who violated the party’s constitution. Who dare say they will suspend me? Who is the person?” Wike challenged.
