John Adoyi, PBA Journalism MenteeThe United States government has given federal agencies in the country one month (30 days) to uninstall Tiktok from all its devices over security concerns posed by the app.
This directive which was issued on Monday, comes months after the United States Congress passed a “No TikTok on Government Devices Act” in December 2022, banning the Popular Chinese video App from federal devices on the ground that TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance could give access to user data to the Chinese Government.
The allegation has been denied severally by Tiktok.

Speaking on the ultimatum, Chris DeRusha, the United States federal chief information security officer said “The Biden-Harris Administration has invested heavily in defending our nation’s digital infrastructure and curbing foreign adversaries’ access to Americans’ data,” he said, adding that the “guidance is part of the Administration’s ongoing commitment to securing our digital infrastructure and protecting the American people’s security and privacy.”
Some US agencies including the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security and State, already have Tiktok ban in place before the directive was issued.
The United State now joins Canada and the European Union executive branch that have all issued ban on tiktok on federal and executive devices.
