1. Petrol Price Hike Will Harm Manufacturing Sector – MAN

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), has stated that the latest hike in the price of premium motor spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol from N568 to N855 per litre would compound the problems being faced by the manufacturing sector.

In a statement, Director General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, said this price hike will lead to higher prices of goods even in the face of the dwindling income of the average Nigerian.

2. Petrol Prices Influenced By Forex, Market Forces – NNPCL

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has said that Foreign Exchange crisis has been a significant factor influencing the changes.

Executive Vice President of NNPCL, Downstream, Adedapo Segun, stated this while speaking on TVC News’ “Journalists’ Hangout” show on Thursday.

Segun claimed that the petroleum sector has been deregulated and petrol prices now determined by market forces not the government fixing prices anymore. Read more

The Nigerian Army has said that social media is breeding a space for bandits to breathe and increase their attacks and influence.

The Army Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhire Ugbo, stated this during the Nigerian Army’s social media seminar, tagged: “Harnessing the Social Media for National Security and Development,” on Thursday in Katsina.

The army chief said the seminar was organised to promote interactions between the army and social media.

4. Petrol Price Hike Reflects Insensitivity of Govt, GIGG Warns

The Director-General, Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), Dr. Emeka Kalu, has stated that the latest hike in petrol price reflects the insensitivity of the APC-led government towards the plight of the poor masses.

In a statement on Thursday, Dr Kalu warned that the hike would lead to further collapse of the economy which has already been down since the assumption of office by President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, has assured that petrol will be available across the country by weekend.

The reordering followed a letter dated 9 August 2024 and sent to the House by the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Ayomide Adeleye, a 300-level student of Philosophy at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, has been arrested over alleged kidnap and murder of Christiannah Idowu, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

According to reports, the 23-year-old suspect has confessed to the crime. This has sparked condemnation on social media space with many Nigerians seeking justice and immediate prosecution of the killer.
