The latest reshuffle, which saw the replacement of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, represents one of the most significant changes in the military hierarchy since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
General Oluyede, the new Chief of Defence Staff, is a seasoned officer with extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations, while Major General Shaibu previously commanded key army divisions in the North West.
Rear Admiral Abbas has served in various top naval operational commands, and Air Vice Marshal Aneke, an accomplished pilot, has led multiple air missions in Nigeria’s conflict zones.
Though details of the meeting were not made public, it is viewed as an early indication of the President’s determination to recalibrate Nigeria’s security strategy amid ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and violent crime nationwide.
The new service chiefs are expected to brief the President again in the coming weeks with an updated operational roadmap and strategic recommendations for improving the country’s overall security outlook.
