Stock Market Extends Upward Movement With N823.49bn Gain

On Friday, July 18, the stock market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed at N83.24 trillion, up by N823.49 billion from N82.41 trillion reached on Thursday, July 17.

The equity capitalisation was lifted by the 1,301.8 basis points gained by the all-share index (ASI), which increased from 130,283.86 ASI to 131,585.66 ASI.

On the trading floor, 3.34 billion shares, worth N62,38 billion, exchanged hands in 28,593 deals, against the 1.19 billion shares exchanged by investors on Thursday, in 37,418 deals, valued at N42.75 billion, on Thursday.

Top five gainers

  • NCR share price increased by N0.60 kobo, to rise from N6 to N6.60 kobo per share.
  • Learn Africa’s share value grew by N0.57 kobo, from N5.70 kobo to N6.27 kobo per share.
  • UPDC ended trading at N4.84 per share, from N4.40 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.44 kobo.
  • BUA Cement gained N11.20 kobo to end trading at N123.40 kobo, having opened with N112.20 kobo.
  • Ellah Lakes’ share value was up by N0.98 kobo, after closing at N10.80 kobo from N9.82 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Redstar Express’ share price depreciated by N1.43 kobo, dwindling from N14.35 kobo to N12.92 kobo per share.
  • Union Dicon recorded a N1.15 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N10.80 kobo after opening with N11.95 kobo per share.
  • Academy lost N0.50 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N7 from N7.50 kobo per share.
  • Sterling Financial Holding Company reported a decline of N0.28 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N6.45 kobo to end trading at N6.17 kobo per share.
  • First HoldCo recorded a N1.45 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N33.95 kobo after opening with N35.40 kobo per share.

  • FCMB reported that 1.30 billion shares valued at N12.62 billion were traded on its floor.
  • Fidelity Bank recorded 1.15 billion shares valued at N23.03 billion.
  • Access Holdings saw investors trade 113.80 million of its shares valued at N3.06 billion.
  • Chams recorded 92.62 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N293.87 million.
  • Zenith Bank reported 50.70 million shares valued at N3.66 billion exchanged in investors’ hands.
