The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a pastor was arrested for supplying arms and ammunition to suspects involved in the abduction of students and teachers in Orire, warning that the spread of false information could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the reports circulating across some media outlets and social media platforms as false, misleading and entirely unfounded.

According to the police, the reports claimed that a pastor had been arrested for allegedly acting as a gun runner for the kidnappers behind the Orire abduction. However, the Command clarified that neither the police nor any other security agency involved in the rescue operation has made such an arrest.
The police also noted that the Facebook post at the centre of the claims neither identified the alleged pastor nor provided any address, further underscoring the lack of credibility of the allegation.

The Command said the publication appeared to be a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of security operatives from ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted students and teachers, while also casting doubt on the professionalism and commitment of personnel working on the operation.
It urged members of the public to disregard the reports and rely solely on official updates issued through the verified communication channels of the Oyo State Police Command.
The police further warned individuals and media platforms against disseminating unverified information, stressing that anyone found culpable of spreading falsehoods capable of undermining public confidence or compromising ongoing security operations would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command said efforts to secure the safe release of the abducted victims remain ongoing, while assuring residents that all necessary measures are being taken to restore normalcy and maintain security across Oyo State.
