The Nigerian Exchange (NGX), also known as the stock market, continued its upward movement on Wednesday, January 7, with a N409.66 billion gain.
According to data provided by the NGX, the market capitalisation surged to N102.68 trillion, from N102.27 trillion reached on Tuesday, January 6.

The volume of shares traded increased to 1.44 billion, which were exchanged in 49,286 deals, worth N20,69 billion, exceeding the 758.98 million shares traded in 54,212 deals, valued at N19.86 billion the day before.
Top five gainers
- Union Dicon’s share price increased by N0.80 kobo to rise from N8 to N8.80 kobo per share.
- Okomu Oil’s share value grew by N109.50 kobo, from N1,095 to N1,204.50 kobo per share.
- Seplat ended trading at N6,171 per share, from N5,610 per share – indicating an increase of N561.
- NCR gained N7.25 kobo to end trading at N79.95 kobo, having opened with N72.70 kobo.
- McNichols’ share value was up by N0.43 kobo, after closing at N4.76 kobo from N4.33 kobo per share.
Top five losers
- Cadbury’s share price depreciated by N7, dwindling from N70 to N63 per share.
- Austin Laz recorded a N0.56 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N5.08 after opening with N5.64 kobo per share.
- ALEX lost N2.15 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N19.55 kobo from N21.70 kobo per share.
- HM Call recorded a N0.46 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N4.21 kobo after opening with N4.67 kobo per share.
- FTN Cocoa reported a decline of N0.64 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N6.65 kobo to end trading at N6.01 per share.

- Universal Insurance reported that 804.11 million shares valued at N410.4 million were traded on its floor.
- Linkage Assurance recorded 54.87 million shares valued at N98.84 million.
- Access Corporation saw investors trade 29.73 million of its shares valued at N691.53 million.
- Ellah Lakes recorded 26.50 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N446.38 million.
- Mutual Benefit reported 24.47 million shares valued at N100.19 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
