Over N1.33bn Wiped Off Stock Market As Dangote Cement, Jaiz Bank Record Losses

The market capitalisation of the Nigerian stock market closed at N90.22 trillion on Tuesday, August 19, falling below the N91.56 trillion reported on Monday, August 18, indicating a decrease of N1.33 billion.

The all-share index (ASI) depreciated by 2,109 basis points to 142,613.47 ASI, from 144,722.47 ASI.

About 1.02 billion shares were exchanged in 34,352 deals, valued at N17,66 billion, compared to the previous day’s 1.14 billion shares traded in 38,160 deals, worth N16.17 billion.

Top five gainers

  • Lotus Hal’s share price increased by N10.50 kobo, to rise from N105.05 to N115.55 kobo per share.
  • Enamelwa’s share value grew by N3.25 kobo, from N32.65 kobo to N35.90 kobo per share.
  • DAAR Communications ended trading at N1.23 kobo per share, from N1.12 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.11 kobo.
  • Deap Capital gained N0.17 kobo to end trading at N1.94 kobo, having opened with N1.77 kobo.
  • Academy’s share value was up by N0.70 kobo, after closing at N9 from N8.30 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Royal Exchange share price depreciated by N0.28 kobo, dwindling from N2.80 kobo to N2.52 kobo per share.
  • Dangote Cement recorded a N57 decline in its share price to end trading at N520 after opening with N577 per share.
  • RT Briscoe lost N0.39 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N3.56 kobo from N3.95 kobo per share.
  • Jaiz Bank reported a decline of N0.47 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N4.79 kobo to end trading at N4.32 kobo per share.
  • Lasaco recorded a N0.39 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.60 kobo after opening with N3.99 kobo per share.

  • Universal Insurance reported that 130.22 million shares valued at N173.67 million were traded on its floor.
  • AIICO recorded 100.11million shares valued at N437.56 million.
  • Mutual Benefits saw investors trade 68.52 million of its shares valued at N310.65 million.
  • Prestige recorded 66.86 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N135.37million.
  • Regal Insurance reported that 46.14 million shares valued at N69.25 million were exchanged by investors.
