NIPR 2023 Conference: Information Minister Hints On Govt’s Trust Restoration Efforts

The newly appointed Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has stated that the government is deeply committed to regaining the trust of its citizens by enacting tangible and credible policies.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) 2023 Conference/Annual General Meeting, Minister Idris highlighted the significance of transparent information dissemination and the crucial role of NIPR in reshaping public perception.

He said: “Our aim is to instill confidence in the people of Nigeria through policies that make a genuine impact on their lives. We believe in openness and transparency, as these elements are crucial in restoring faith in the government’s intentions.”

Idris emphasised on the necessity for accurate and unbiased information distribution, citing its potential to reduce apathy and foster trust between the government and the citizens.

Addressing the audience at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, the minister also restated the government’s commitment to executing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “It is this very vision that will steer the course of action under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated, emphasizing the government’s renewed dedication to uplifting the lives of Nigerians.

Idris acknowledged the pivotal role of NIPR in shaping public perception of the government’s reformative efforts. He urged the Institute to continue its dedication to service for the greater good and emphasized the indispensable role of public relations professionals in the current information-saturated age.

“As storytellers and custodians of reputation, we play a vital role in bridging gaps and fostering trust. In an era where a single misleading tweet can shatter trust, our integrity must remain unassailable,” he declared.

The President and Chairman of the Council, NIPR, Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo,  applauded the government for the recent appointments and emphasised the crucial position that NIPR members hold in national development.

Acknowledging the challenges faced, including the effects of the subsidy removal on petroleum products, Sirajo assured the Institute’s unwavering support through all available avenues.

The focus remained firmly fixed on rebuilding trust, fostering open communication, and leveraging the power of accurate information to rebuild the bond between the government and the Nigerian people.
