Nigerians Reacts As Naira Marley Sues Iyabo Ojo For Libel, Demands ₦500m

EFCC's Legal Battle Against Naira Marley Hits a Roadblock

Nigerian singer Naira Marley has accused Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, of libel demanding ₦500 million for damages and a public apology.

The controversy stems from a series of remarks made by Ojo, which Marley’s legal team deems malicious and damaging to the singer’s reputation.

According to a letter dated December 12, 2023, Marley’s lawyers argue that Ojo’s statements insinuated that the singer is a drug addict who laced the food and drinks given to individuals staying with him, leading to significant harm in their lives.

The legal document further contends that Ojo implicated Marley in the tragic death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa ‘Mohbad’ Aloba.

The Real Housewives of Lagos star allegedly suggested that Marley played a role in Mohbad’s demise, fostering public belief in the singer’s complicity in the alleged murder.

The letter, a sternly worded legal missive, declares, “The above-quoted words in the publications set out above were in their natural and ordinary meanings defamatory of our client and have exposed him to public odium, ridicule, and contempt.”

It demands a retraction of Ojo’s statements within seven days, failing which legal proceedings will be initiated.

Notably, Marley’s legal team insists that Ojo must issue a public apology on her official Instagram account within the same seven-day timeframe.
