Thirty-three young graduates in engineering, geology, and related fields have commenced a 12-month training programme in pipeline engineering, corrosion control, and monitoring, aimed at developing local expertise for the protection and sustainability of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, Prime Business Africa reports.
The training, organised under the Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited and MJD Oilfield Services Limited Nigerian Content Human Capital Development (NC HCD) Programme, is implemented in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
Participants will undergo classroom technical sessions, simulation-based learning, field demonstrations, on-the-job training, mentorship, case study reviews, and continuous evaluation.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Tarilate Bribena-Teide, Manager of Human Capital Development at NCDMB, representing the Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, emphasised the importance of pipeline pigging a process that uses devices called pigs for cleaning and gauging pipelines and corrosion control.
She said the training would equip participants to prevent pipeline failures, safeguard the environment, and contribute to national economic growth.
“The expertise gained will position trainees to contribute meaningfully to major national projects, such as the 614-kilometre Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, aligning with the Board’s mandate to build local capacity and deepen Nigerian participation in the oil and gas industry,” Bribena-Teide stated.
Representing Renaissance Africa, Engr. Funso Alabi lauded NCDMB’s support for the growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, highlighting the Board’s role in producing skilled Nigerians in key positions locally and abroad. He also commended MJD Oilfield Services for providing highly qualified trainers for the programme.
For MJD, Managing Director Mr. Olayemi Familusi expressed appreciation for NCDMB and Renaissance, noting that the Board’s initiatives have significantly transformed the q, particularly in human capital and indigenous company development.
In closing, Chief Austin Ugbunaia, Project Manager at MJD, assured that trainees would receive quality training and practical exposure, thanking NCDMB and Renaissance for the opportunity to participate in national capacity development.
The programme is expected to deliver skilled, project-ready personnel, create a pipeline integrity talent pool, and enhance long-term infrastructure reliability across Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
